From this place, you can root into what gives direction and rise further into who you are
and shape your life from there.

Hi, I’m Mattie

I’m deeply drawn to the ever-changing nature of life and what it teaches us about being human.

Like many, I’ve experienced what it feels like to lose connection with myself, with others, and with what is important in life. It made me become aware of the fragility of life.

I grew up on a biodynamic farm in the Netherlands, rooted in nature, simplicity, and living in connection with the land. From there, life took me between countries, cultures, and very different ways of living. This shaped how I came to understand people and human experience. I have a deep curiosity for what lies beneath our labels, backgrounds, and conditioning. How people make meaning of life. And what we all share underneath it.

These experiences gradually shaped the path I am on today. A path grounded in science, psychology, experiential and spiritual traditions, and a close relationship with nature. I work with inner exploration, relational processes, somatic awareness, and guided psychedelic experiences, with a strong focus on safety, presence, and integration.

What I offer comes from embodied experience shaped through my own process of change, exploration, and integration. I support people in reconnecting with themselves, others, and the natural world. Meeting them where they are, with everything that is present. Clarity, confusion, strength, vulnerability, and everything in between.

More about me:

  • From an early age, I got a sense of being part of something larger. A natural curiosity to explore, to feel connected to the land, and to sense life as something alive and interconnected. Growing up on a regenerative farm with authentic and idealistic parents gave me a good fundament.

Even without words for it at the time, there was a deep feeling that we are not separate from nature, but part of its cycles. Over time I also saw how modern life often moves toward separation, away from these natural rhythms.

This shaped an early awareness that stayed with me: that life is not something we stand outside of, but something we are continuously part of.

  • This curiosity led me to study anthropology, where I became deeply interested in the human experience across cultures. I was struck by how different people can appear on the surface, while still sharing something very essential underneath.

I also began to see how much of our separation comes from the stories and concepts we create about ourselves.

During this time I spent time in South America, where I witnessed both deep human connection and generosity, and also the raw reality of inequality. It touched something in me deeply and created a sense of inner questioning about how things are structured in the world.

Around my late twenties I went through a period of depression, although I did not fully recognize it at the time. I continued life as usual, moving within systems that often don’t create space to slow down or truly feel what is happening internally.

This period made me aware of something I had not understood before: the lack of initiation in modern culture. In many traditional societies, rites of passage support people in moving consciously through stages of life, with more responsibility, awareness, and empowerment. Without this, people can remain in patterns where they do not fully recognize their place within something larger.

This also shaped my understanding of responsibility. Not as pressure, but as relationship. To life around us. To others. And to the natural world that continuously sustains us.

  • Nature became an important source of inspiration. Especially after going through a period of inner disconnection and depression, I started to feel how essential it is to return to something simple and real. Something that is larger than our thinking mind. Nature showed me this again and again, in a very direct way.

This led me to deepen my relationship with the natural world in a more active way. My move to Portugal became part of that process. I felt a strong call to be closer to living ecosystems and to participate more directly in regeneration.

Here I began working more deeply with regenerative practices such as permaculture and syntropic agroforestry, alongside revisiting the biodynamic principles I grew up with. Different frameworks, but the same underlying understanding: when we align with natural systems, life becomes more coherent and abundant.

Alongside this, men’s work became an important part of my path. It gave me a space of honesty, reflection, and belonging. Over time this led me to facilitate men’s groups, creating spaces where people can meet themselves and each other in a more real and present way.

Breathwork has also been a consistent practice in my own life and work. A simple but powerful way to work with the body, emotions, and nervous system through something we all already carry within us.

In more recent years, guided work with psilocybin has become part of my exploration. Always approached with care, respect, and integration. In the right context, it can support deep inner processes and offer perspectives that are often difficult to access in ordinary states of awareness.

In every moment lays the possibility to change. We can cultivate the presence to spot the opportunity and act on it.

I want to remind you that you can align with life’s force, that lives inside of everyone.

The path of Rising from the Roots is grounded in three core pillars

  • Self exploration and introspection through carefully guided psilocybin ceremonies to gain access to deeper insights and transformation
  • Cultivating authentic relationships through brotherhood and mixed conscious exploration
  • Reconnecting to the greater cycles of life. Aligning with nature’s force and the natural world around you.
These pillars form the roots and fundament to rise with presence, resilience, and authenticity. This is an invitation to remember the power within you and cultivate a life guided by purpose and connection.

The journeys weave together rituals, embodiment practices, guidance, breathwork, meditation, visualization, movement, sound, nature, honest sharings. Carefully chosen according to the need of the journey to support your process.

Guided self exploration with Psilocybin: recognized by nature, tradition and science

SCIENCE - Research shows psilocybin can temporarily increase flexibility in brain activity, allowing the mind to move out of fixed patterns. This can support meaningful shifts in behaviour, emotional processing, and perspective often leading to lasting changes in how people relate to themselves and their lives.
TRADITIONAL CULTURES - In traditional cultures, psilocybin has been used within ceremonial contexts as a natural medicine for insight, healing, and guidance. Approached with preparation, respect, and integration, as part of a wider relational and spiritual framework.
NATURE - In nature, mycelium breaks down what is no longer alive and turns it into fertile ground for new growth. In a similar way, these experiences can support the brain in forming new pathways, strengthening its ability to adapt, reorganise, and integrate new patterns of thinking and feeling over time.
When held with intention, preparation, and integration, this becomes a guided inner process rather than a 'trip'. A grounded way to work with consciousness and inner layers, supporting clarity, emotional depth, and lasting integration into daily life.
Let your days begin with intention, clarity and connection to yourself. This month- long journey is not just about microdosing psilocybin. It is aimed to offer grounded support for your inner processes and direction in life. With experienced guidance and practices to make make you feel held, especially when this is something new for you. Together we develop a simple practice that will be your anchor for the month. It serves as an entry point to steadily rewire your brain so new habits can develop that support your growth.
The microdosing is served with high quality ceremonial chocolate, crafted with plant wisdom, ritual and care. With love for the earth, that ripples out in the landscape by planting a tree for every month you microdose.

Relational spaces of honesty and belonging

Relational spaces
Spaces where we slow down how we meet each other and relate with more presence and honesty. Beyond roles and expectations, we explore what becomes possible when we are seen and see each other more clearly. A sense of shared humanity and belonging can emerge.

Men’s work
Men’s work is an invitation for men to meet life fully, with its joys and struggles, its strength and vulnerability. What is often carried alone becomes something shared, and what feels personal is recognised in others.
Through simple practices and honest reflection we move from thought into presence. Creating space for honesty, responsibility, and deeper connection.
Spaces to be seen without judgment or performance, and to meet others in the same way.

Men’s journey

A three month journey into brotherhood where we meet every second week.

In this journey of 6 sessions we dive into different aspects of men’s work. Creating a deep container with a committed group that is ready to get to know themselves and each other deeper. To meet beyond the usual stories, witnessing and being witnessed with all there is. No masks, no judgement, no competition. The length of this container provides consistency, depth and integration into daily life.

Retreat: rooting together

a 5 day men’s retreat in nature, in brotherhood, in ceremony

5 days immersed in the forest with a small group of men. In brotherhood.
In nature. In ceremony. Dropping the fast pace of life, slow down and connect deeply. In circle, in embodiment practices and rituals, creating a space to be connected with ourselves, with brothers, with the forest that holds us.
From our hidden shadows into our deepest hopes and dreams. As we challenge each other to look deeper within. And find space to be. Amongst men.

1:1 Guidance

Personal guidance for your path

Personally crafted guidance and coaching tailored to your needs and process to help you reconnect with yourself and your purpose. A grounded and compassionate mirror helping you to see the obstacles in life as opportunities rather then problems. Online or in person coaching sessions, developing healthy routines, practices and direction.

Aligning with nature’s rhythms

Remembering that we are part of the natural cycles calls us back to the forces that have shaped life for millennia. Through gentle, intentional steps in every day life we can remind ourselves to care for life around as an extension of yourself.
Being in nature reminds us that we are already part of it. Not separate. When we slow down, the body settles and clarity begins to return on its own. In this alignment, presence, insight, and inner guidance can emerge more naturally.

It also brings a deeper sense of responsibility. Not as pressure, but as relationship with the living world that sustains us. From here, life is no longer something outside of us, but something we are part of and can participate in with awareness.

Nature is my biggest source of inspiration and grounding. Regenerating ecosystems gave me meaning and belief that I can make a difference.

In a world that can feel heavy, empty and exploitative.

The path of Men’s work and deeper intimacy became my entry point to feel my truth.

Feeling deeply into the human experience, as an act of rebellion against the numbness in society. Feeling belonging

Plant medicine humbled me deeply. Offering me the initiations and direction I was longing for. Aligning me with my purpose.

Giving me the eyes to see that we are part of life and we can create our own reality.

My work is about helping you reconnect with what is alive in you.
So you can move through life with more clarity, steadiness,
and capacity to meet what arises, with presence.

Rising from the roots is a process of reconnecting with what is already alive within you.
A gradual return to clarity, steadiness, and the inner capacity to meet life with more awareness and choice.
Through intentional practices, shared spaces, and guided experiences, you begin to recognise each moment as something you can meet more fully. Not by controlling life, but by becoming more present within it. Little by little, patterns can soften and new ways of being become available.
Over time, this allows for real change. Not as a forced reinvention, but as a natural shift in how you relate to yourself, to others, and to what you are moving through in life.
The same life force that moves through you also moves through rivers, forests, and the wider cycles of nature. Nothing is separate from this movement.
Rising from the roots is an invitation to remember your place within it. To meet your life with more presence, responsibility, and trust in what is already unfolding through you.

Breath is one of the keys to change in my life.

When I was 6 weeks old, I almost lost my life through the lack of breath.

Now, intentional breathwork is a fundamental part of my daily routine that enables me to embrace life more fully.
